The Queensland state government has finished a A$16.5m ($10.8m) project to expand Robina Hospital.
Project at Robina Hospital Adds 20 Emergency Treatment Spaces
The completion of the expansion project at Robina Hospital by the Queensland state government brings an additional 20 emergency treatment spaces to the public hospital, which caters to the southern suburbs of the Gold Coast.
With this expansion, the hospital’s emergency department (ED) treatment space count rises to 66.
These new spaces, operating around the clock to offer free walk-in care, are expected to accommodate approximately 120 patients daily.
The initiative aims to reduce waiting times for emergency care and improve the overall patient flow within the hospital.
According to the Queensland government, the primary focus of the new treatment spaces will be on managing less acute injuries and illnesses.
Additionally, the expansion includes the addition of new staff workstations and the relocation of the transfer unit. Currently, the hospital is in the process of recruiting nearly 126 full-time employees and allied health staff, including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists.
This latest expansion is part of the state government’s A$14bn Health Big Build initiative, aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure.
The Health Big Build plan aims to deliver over 3,300 additional hospital beds, with 199 beds already delivered in 2023 and 239 targeted for completion this year.
