The decision marks a significant step in positioning the Gold Coast as a leading film destination in Australia.
World Class Screen Production Facility in the Gold Coast
Shadowbox Studios, renowned for its world-class facilities in London and Atlanta, has proposed an ambitious project encompassing up to 10 sound stages, workshops, office spaces, a backlot, and training facilities.

Peter Rumbold, CEO of Shadowbox Studios, expressed enthusiasm for expanding the company’s premier production facilities to the Gold Coast. “As the local screen industry continues to grow, Shadowbox looks forward to hosting first-class film and television productions and fostering substantial job creation for the region through our studio-run, industry-certified crew training program,” he remarked.
2nd Phase
The project’s first phase, slated for completion in 2028, will include up to six sound stages, a workshop, an office building, a backlot, and outdoor filming space.
A potential second phase, contingent on market demand, could add another four sound stages, a workshop, and office space.
The development is projected to create over 1,000 jobs during construction and an impressive 3,400 direct and indirect jobs once fully operational, underscoring its transformative potential for the local workforce and economy.
With negotiations underway between Shadowbox Studios and the City Council, this ambitious endeavour promises to usher in a new era for the Gold Coast’s film industry, attracting major productions and solidifying its place on the global stage.
