Gold Coast motorists are advised that Wardoo Street between Benowa Road and Cotlew Street has been closed for six months starting yesterday as the intersection is converted from a roundabout to traffic lights.
Detours are in place for drivers on Wardoo Street as a major project transforms a congested roundabout into traffic lights, but local residents will still have access to their properties.
Michael Kahler, Executive General Manager of Infrastructure for the Gold Coast, explained that the road closure, expected to last six months, is crucial to ensure the project is completed safely and efficiently.
The upgrades aim to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety, and support active travel like walking and cycling. With the Gold Coast population projected to reach 800,000 by 2031, these improvements will address the growing demand for the transport system.
Motorists are advised to be patient, follow traffic signs, and plan for extra travel time during work.
