A 66-year-old Hungarian tourist drowned on the Gold Coast during his vacation with his wife.
The incident happened last Feb. 22 at the popular Mermaid Beach, where the man was snorkelling outside the designated flags. His wife raised the alarm upon returning from a walk and being unable to locate him.
Lifeguards started a search and located the man 600m north at Broadbeach. Despite their efforts to revive him until paramedics arrived, he died at the scene. The absence of witnesses makes it hard to determine the cause of the fatal drowning.
