Gold Coast, June 11, 2024 — The City of Gold Coast has announced an unprecedented commitment to infrastructure development in its 2024-25 budget, allocating substantial funds to transport and road projects to accommodate the city’s growth and future needs.
In a statement, Mayor Tom Tate emphasised the importance of these investments for the city’s future. “This budget is all about future-proofing our city, with a focus on transport and roads,” said Mayor Tate. “We are continuing to make record investments in infrastructure for our growing city.”
Gold Coast 2024-25 Budget
The 2024-25 budget earmarks a staggering $255 million for the road network, $138 million for transport improvements, and an additional $65 million for road rehabilitation and resealing programs.
Mayor Tate highlighted that transport and traffic are top priorities for Gold Coast residents, necessitating significant investments to enhance and expand the city’s infrastructure.
“Transport and traffic rank among the highest priorities for Gold Coasters,” Mayor Tate said. “Our focus is on expanding and improving our investment in vital infrastructure to keep the city moving.”
The Mayor acknowledged the increasing costs faced by the Council, akin to the rising expenses in a family budget, but underscored the necessity of continued investment in the city’s transport network.
The Gold Coast currently boasts over 3260 kilometres of sealed roads, 1945 kilometres of pathways, and 292 road and pedestrian bridges.
With these substantial allocations, the 2024-25 budget aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by ensuring a robust and efficient transport system capable of supporting the city’s rapid expansion.
