Redland City, QLD — Residents subscribed to the Redland City Council’s emergency notification service will now receive alerts about planned hazard reduction burns on Council land in their vicinity.
Planned Burn Alerts to Emergency Notification Service
The new feature for Redlands Coast Alerts will provide subscribers with targeted notifications about planned burns, considering their set location and the prevailing wind conditions.
This is an expansion of the current service, which already sends SMS and email notifications about local disasters and flood warnings for four key roads.
Additionally, subscribers receive weather warnings and alerts from the Bureau of Meteorology via email.
Planned burns are essential for reducing forest litter fuel, which lowers fire danger and creates favorable conditions for native vegetation to regenerate.
Mayor Jos Mitchell highlighted that residents who already signed up for Redlands Coast Alerts do not need to re-enrol to receive the new planned burn notifications.
She encouraged subscribers to log in and ensure their address details are accurate to benefit fully from this service.
“Our Redlands Coast community has requested planned burn notifications from the Council, and we are pleased to add this feature to Redlands Coast Alerts,” said Mayor Mitchell.
Residents interested in subscribing to Redlands Coast Alerts can register on the Council’s Redlands Coast Disaster Dashboard at disaster.redland.qld.gov.au by following the prompts under the Redlands Coast Alerts tab.
