The Queensland Police Service (QPS) is set to welcome 38 First Year Constables (FYCs) to the Gold Coast Police District by the end of this year.
38 New Police Recruits to Gold Coast
This influx of recruits aims to strengthen community safety efforts in the vibrant tourist hub.
Reflecting the Service’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, these recruits come from varied backgrounds, enhancing the department with fresh perspectives.
They have completed an eight-month Recruit Training Program that included rigorous physical training, driving, firearms handling, and numerous real-world policing scenarios.
Upon their deployment, the recruits will undergo further on-the-job training over 12 months through the First Year Constable program.
Their presence on the Gold Coast is essential as the region continues to expand, requiring a proactive and responsive police force.
The QPS remains a national leader in police recruitment, recently celebrating a record graduation of 137 new officers.
This week, 56 officers will graduate from the Townsville academy, with more graduations scheduled soon.
Currently, nearly 700 recruits are in training, with almost 2200 applicants in the pipeline, resulting in the highest number of police officers and recruits in Queensland’s history.
This unprecedented recruitment is part of the government’s largest investment in policing in over 30 years, aiming to add almost 3000 new police personnel.
Supported by a $1.28 billion investment, this initiative is a key element of the Community Safety Plan for Queensland, which has already shown success in reducing crime in the first quarter of the year.
The plan focuses on five pillars: supporting victims, delivering for the frontline, detaining offenders, early intervention, and crime prevention.
