Gold Coast, QLD — The Gold Coast Police District has proudly welcomed eight new first-year constables this week, marking their initial deployment across various stations from Robina to Coomera.
Superintendent Peter Miles congratulated the new recruits for completing their rigorous training and officially welcomed them to the Queensland Police Service (QPS).
“Our new recruits consistently bring impressive skills, diverse experiences, and fresh perspectives to the Queensland Police Service,” Superintendent Miles remarked. “These attributes are crucial in tackling the wide range of challenges that the Gold Coast community faces.”
Emphasising the unique demands of the Gold Coast, Superintendent Miles highlighted the importance of a strong and agile police force. “The Gold Coast is a dynamic and bustling region, and the addition of these new constables will bolster our community presence. We are deeply grateful for their commitment and dedication,” he said.
“These recruits are joining a team of professionals who are deeply devoted to the safety and well-being of the Gold Coast community. I am confident that they will make a meaningful impact and wish them great success as they embark on their careers in Queensland policing.”
Among the new constables is Emma Sykes, a former Australian rugby sevens player who won two gold medals at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
Sykes expressed her excitement about transitioning into her new role with the QPS.
“After stepping away from rugby a few years ago, I was uncertain about my next steps,” Sykes shared. “While rugby allowed me to travel the world and was a fantastic experience, I’ve always aspired to join the police. This felt like a now-or-never opportunity.
“As a police officer, you have the chance to be a role model for the community, to help people, and to make a positive difference in their lives. I’m eager to bring the professionalism I gained from my time with the Rugby Sevens into the Queensland Police Service.”
The eight new constables are part of a cohort of 94 recruits who were officially inducted into the Queensland Police Service at the Oxley Academy on Thursday, June 27.
The new constables will be stationed at the following locations within the Gold Coast District:
- Broadbeach Station: 3 constables
- Coomera Station: 1 constable
- Nerang Station: 2 constables
- Robina Station: 1 constable
- Southport Station: 1 constable
The new additions are expected to enhance the police force’s capability to serve and protect the Gold Coast community, ensuring safety and security across the region.
