Construction has started on a unique stand-alone pedestrian and cycle bridge connecting the gap between Buderim and Sippy Downs.
Stringybark Road bridge
The 3-meter-wide bridge, spanning the Sunshine Motorway, establishes a crucial link between the two key areas and enhances connectivity within the education precincts.
Sunshine Coast Council’s Liveability and Natural Assets Group Executive, Bill Haddrill, emphasised the importance of projects like these in ensuring safe mobility for neighbouring communities.
The new bridge, separate from vehicular traffic, provides a shared pathway for cyclists and pedestrians for both commuting and leisure.
In addition to the stand-alone bridge, the existing vehicle bridge will undergo reconfiguration, removing the pathway and introducing on-road cycle lanes on both sides.
This separation ensures the safety of all users, promoting sustainable transportation methods for people of all ages and abilities.
The project addresses a critical need for a safe route over the Sunshine Motorway, benefiting residents and students travelling to nearby schools, UniSC, or local shops.
Construction started this month and is expected to end by late 2024.
Architecturally designed with decorative elements inspired by the local forest canopy and birds, the bridge features patterns that cast a unique ambience both day and night.
Illuminated softly at night, the bridge ensures all users’ safety and clear sight lines.
Supported by an $11.8 million investment from the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants program and Sunshine Coast Council, this project aims to enhance local connectivity and promote sustainable transportation alternatives.
