ABB secured a $150 million contract with Hyundai Rotem to supply traction packages for 65 trains being built for Queensland, Australia.
This deal, part of the A$4.6 billion ($3 billion) Queensland Train Manufacturing Programme, supports the delivery of new EMUs for the region ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brisbane.
The contract includes engineering and service support.
As a project initiative, ABB is also committing a $6 million investment in a Maryborough-based Traction Centre of Excellence.
This facility will include a traction converter, traction motor, and a battery assembly and service centre to relocate production for these components in Queensland.
The Queensland Train Manufacturing Programme is a partnership between Hyundai Rotem and Downer EDI Rail to manufacture six-car EMUs for the Southeast Queensland rail network, including the Cross River Rail line.
