The Gold Coast has officially been announced as the new home of AusTriathlon, following a landmark seven-year partnership between the organisation and the City of Gold Coast.
The agreement, which spans all aspects of AusTriathlon’s operations—from pathway programs and high-performance training to events—aligns perfectly with the region’s role as the proposed host for triathlon at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The announcement was made today on the Gold Coast, with Mayor Tom Tate and AusTriathlon CEO Tim Harradine joined by two-time Olympian Matt Hauser, Paris-bound Paralympian Jack Howell, and rising star Tara Sosinski.
AusTriathlon CEO Tim Harradine called the partnership a “game-changer” for the sport.
“The Gold Coast presents unique opportunities for triathlon to grow and thrive, especially as we head towards Brisbane 2032,” Harradine said. “Relocating here is central to our new High-Performance Strategy, which we’ll unveil soon.”
Mayor Tom Tate celebrated the agreement, highlighting the economic and community benefits.
“The partnership will inject over $30 million into the local economy, create 14 new jobs, and support over 90 pathway athletes training regularly on the Gold Coast,” he said. “With the 2032 Games in sight, this move is the perfect springboard for success.”
Athletes echoed their excitement, praising the Gold Coast’s world-class facilities and ideal training conditions.
“Being here for the past eight years has been a massive advantage,” said Olympian Matt Hauser. “There’s variety, great facilities, and the ocean right at your doorstep.”
Paralympian Jack Howell, who recently relocated to the Gold Coast, added:
“The training environment and lifestyle here are unmatched. It’s a move that will benefit so many athletes.”
Gold Coast local and emerging star Tara Sosinski agreed, calling the announcement a boost for athletes across the board.
“Having top athletes here every day will inspire the next generation. The climate and lifestyle make it the perfect place for triathlon.”
The partnership, secured under the City of Gold Coast’s Sports Attraction program, cements the region’s reputation as a sporting hub and sets the stage for Australian triathlon success leading into Brisbane 2032.
