Townsville City Council has introduced a Reusables Rebate program to assist residents in purchasing reusable products.
The initiative is aiming to divert 60% of household waste from landfills by 2026.
Currently, residents contribute 2,730 tonnes of disposable nappies and sanitary products to landfills yearly, equivalent to about 14 million disposable nappies.
The initiative encourages the use of alternatives like cloth nappies and menstrual cups, offering benefits such as waste reduction and cost savings.
