The Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has unanimously decided to plan and seek external funding for the Toowoomba Escarpment Mountain Bike Trails Project.
During the May Ordinary Meeting, the Council agreed to develop a nationally significant mountain bike trail network for the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley regions.
Cr Tim McMahon of TRC Parks and Recreation Services noted that the Council had been revising plans following community feedback that led to the removal of Redwood Park from the project scope in 2022.
“After listening to community concerns about Redwood Park, we are now focusing on Jubilee and Prince Henry Drive Parks,” said Cr McMahon.
Environmental, flora, fauna, cultural heritage studies, and traffic studies have provided confidence in these new locations.
The Council has submitted an Expression of Interest for funding from the SEQ Liveability Fund, which could offer a more favourable financial outcome than previous funding avenues.
This application focuses on planning and constructing trails within Jubilee Park.
The Council will also update the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley Escarpment Mountain Bike Master Plan 2019-2026 to reflect these changes.
