CS Energy, owned by the Queensland government, completes the construction of a 100MW/200MWh grid-scale battery near Chinchilla and advances to the commissioning stage.
CS Energy’s Chinchilla battery is a vital component of the Kogan Clean Energy Hub in Queensland’s Western Downs.
Situated near the Kogan Creek Power Station, the hub comprises 80 Tesla Megapack systems. These batteries, once fully operational, can power 33,000 homes for two hours during evening peak times.
The main goal is to stabilise the grid power supply, reducing wholesale price volatility.
CS Energy initiated the AUD-150-million battery project in March 2022 and started construction in the summer of the same year. Downer serves as the construction contractor.
The completion marks a substantial step toward achieving the project’s objectives.
