The Miles Government has unveiled the Housing Connectors program, allocating $4.95 million from 2023-2026 to aid victim-survivors of domestic, family, and sexual violence facing or at risk of homelessness.
Housing Connectors Initiative in Toowoomba, Brisbane and Moreton Bay
The initiative, part of the 2021-27 National Partnership Agreement, will deploy nine specialists across Toowoomba, Brisbane, and Moreton Bay.
Providers like the Domestic Violence Action Centre for Toowoomba, Micah Projects for Brisbane, and Kyabra for Mreton Bay will assist victim-survivors in securing suitable housing and navigating human services systems.
The teams, integrated into DFSV services, will work with various agencies, including disability services, First Nations health services, mental health, substance abuse services, employment, training services, and settlement/immigration services.
Operating in a one-on-one capacity, Housing Connectors will ensure safety, facilitate access to housing, and offer vital support referrals.
With access to brokerage funds, these roles become invaluable resources for victim-survivors, aiding them in maintaining or establishing housing and transitioning existing supports or services as needed.
The Housing Connectors initiative is part of the Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence Responses 2021-27 National Partnership Agreement (NPA) and will receive $4.95m in funding from 2023-2026.
The initiative’s outcomes will undergo review in 2024, shaping future policy considerations and planning.
