Residents of the City of Gold Coast interested in undertaking conservation projects on their properties are being encouraged to participate in the Nature Conservation Assistance Program.
This initiative offers financial support for landowners who wish to restore and rejuvenate larger patches of bushland on their properties.
Gold Coast’s Nature Conservation Assistance Program
The city is now accepting expressions of interest from landowners whose properties contain sizable bushland areas that are suitable for ecological restoration.
The financial assistance provided through this program aims to support bush regeneration projects that contribute to the improvement of local habitats.
Mayor Tom Tate emphasised the importance of the initiative, saying that they are committed to improving and enhancing our environment.
Since its inception in 2013, the program has allocated over $1 million to more than 150 projects, resulting in the revitalisation of over 400 hectares of land.
Mayor Tate added, “This is just one of the ways we are protecting and enhancing our natural environment as part of the Our Natural City Strategy.”
This year, the program will distribute up to $150,000 among successful conservation projects.
Eligible projects include environmental weed control and bush regeneration, planting native tube stock to restore degraded areas, establishing vegetation corridors, and rehabilitating the banks of natural waterways.
Expressions of interest will open today, July 1, and close at 3 pm on Sunday, July 14.
Following the submission of an expression of interest, a site visit will be conducted to discuss the potential project before the formal application process begins.
