The Townsville Turf Club’s ongoing transformation will advance significantly with the approval of 92 new on-course stables at Cluden Park.
This ambitious $10 million project is jointly funded by a $7.8 million contribution from the Miles Government’s Racing Infrastructure Fund and $2.2 million from Racing Queensland.
The new stables will be housed in five barns located adjacent to the racecourse’s back straight. The project will also include new feed rooms, wash-down bays, and horse exercise machines, along with improved road access and sealed parking.
Construction is set to begin in July 2024, led by local contractor A Gabrielli Constructions, and will support 50 local construction jobs. The project is expected to be completed by early 2025.
Since 2015, successive State Labor Governments have implemented significant infrastructure improvements at Cluden Park. These include the installation of 100 new tie-up stalls, refurbishment of the steward tower, and the addition of a new irrigated fibre sand training track.
The racing industry in Townsville is thriving, contributing over $75 million to the local economy in 2022-23. This marks a 142% increase since Labor took office in 2015.
