Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has been criticised for his brief visit to Townsville on Anzac Day, which some are calling a “photo-op” after he left the city in just about 15 minutes.
Sky News host Chris Kenny spoke with Shadow Assistant Defence Minister Phillip Thompson about the Prime Minister’s quick stopover in Townsville.
“On this nation’s most sacred day, we expect the Prime Minister of Australia, if he’s coming to Townsville – the largest garrison city and the capital of the Australian Army – to spend some time here,” Thompson said.
“He should talk to soldiers, talk to veterans, not just walk around for a photo-op and leave.”
“The Prime Minister spent about 15 minutes in Townsville, walked around the RSL, got a few boos, and then he was gone.”
