International Women’s Day Fun Run
A staggering 23,000 participants, including runners, joggers, and walkers, marked a record-breaking turnout for this year’s International Women’s Day Fun Run.
Hosted in Brisbane CBD and presented by Queensland X-Ray, the event aimed to gather funds for breast cancer research, services, and equipment.
Another 3,500 individuals participated in ‘virtual’ fun runs across various communities such as Bowen, Bundaberg, Cairns, the Gold Coast, Gympie, Kingaroy, Longreach, Mackay, Moranbah, Rockhampton, Redlands, Springfield, and the Sunshine Coast.
Additionally, Townsville saw over 750 participants at Cluden Park racecourse for its own International Women’s Day Fun Run.
Andrew Thomas, Chief Executive of Mater Foundation, hailed this year’s event as the largest in its 33-year history.
Health Minister Shannon Fentiman kicked off the festivities by announcing a $15,000 contribution from the Queensland Government at the starting line on Vulture Street.
