Goldcoasters are getting their first look at the final design of the new Pimpama train station. This marks a crucial step in connecting one of Australia’s fastest-growing communities to South East Queensland’s heavy rail network.
New Pimpama Train Station Design and Features
ADCO Constructions took charge of designing and constructing the Pimpama train station after much consultation and feedback from the community. Construction kicked off in late 2022.
Since then, efforts have been made to finalise the station design alongside the construction program. Community feedback has played a role in shaping the station’s look and feel.
The upcoming Pimpama station is designed to be inclusive, featuring lifts on each platform, accessible carparks, taxi bays, and user-friendly wayfinding.
The main features are:
- Pedestrian station access through Kosciuszko Circuit.
- Enhanced bike infrastructure, outdoor bicycle racks and a secure 40-bicycle lock-up enclosure.
- Bigger taxi and kiss ‘n’ ride bays, with clear wayfinding signage and improved platform access.
- Seamless connections to bus services and active transport paths.
- A total of 380 parking spaces are available upon station opening.
Pimpama, a growing suburb of the Gold Coast, is set to have three new stations as part of the Cross River Rail project, along with Hope Island and Merrimac.
Progress and Timeline
Builders are starting to put structural steel frames for the platforms and new overhead electrical portals that will stretch across the station building. 189 piles have already been installed for the station’s platform foundations and retaining wall.
Completion of major construction is expected in late 2024.
Pimpama station is set to open in 2025 after ensuring safety and efficiency through testing and integration with public transport services.
Early work and site setup are underway at Hope Island and Merrimac stations on the Gold Coast, gearing up for major construction in the coming months.
