The Crisafulli Government has introduced legislation to Parliament to abolish stamp duty on new homes for eligible first-home buyers and scrap Labor’s Patients’ Tax, delivering on key commitments from its 100 Day Plan.
The Revenue Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 aims to make home ownership more accessible by removing upfront costs for first-home buyers and boosting housing supply. For example, buyers could save up to $37,000 on a house-and-land package in Brisbane’s north.
The bill also eliminates payroll tax on GPs, ending the so-called Patients’ Tax.
This change is expected to protect bulk billing, reduce healthcare costs, and ease pressure on emergency departments.
Treasurer David Janetzki said the reforms address the cost-of-living crisis by delivering real savings for families and improving home ownership rates.
RACGP Queensland Chair Dr Cath Hester welcomed the move, calling it a “big relief” for patients and general practitioners alike.
