Gold Coast, July 3, 2024 — The Gold Coast Police alerts motorists to upcoming road closures due to the highly anticipated Gold Coast Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7. 

The event is set to draw over 25,000 participants, making it one of the largest annual sports events in the region.

The marathon and related events will begin and end at the Southport Broadwater Parklands. The marathon course, set for Sunday, extends southward to include Hythe Street in Miami.

Gold Coast Police, in collaboration with the City of Gold Coast and Events Management Queensland is implementing comprehensive safety measures and traffic management plans to minimise inconvenience to the public. 

Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid travel along the marathon route during the two-day event due to expected diversions and delays.

“Approximately 100 officers will be overseeing the event, alongside 200 marshals, to ensure public safety and minimise disruption to residents and businesses,” stated Senior Sergeant Des Hearn.

Drivers are urged to stay alert for competitors and fun runners and to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays.

Motorists can expect delays and traffic congestion at the following road closures on Saturday 6 July 2024 from 3.30am to 11.00am.

Full road closure of the following roads:

  • The Esplanade Paradise Point from Eider Avenue to Falkinder Avenue Paradise Point
  • Bayview Street from Falkinder Avenue Paradise Point to Lands End Bridge, Anglers Paradise
  • Lae Drive from Bayview Street to Morala Avenue, Runaway Bay
  • Marine Parade from Lands End Bridge Biggera Waters to Brisbane Road, Biggera Waters
  • Gold Coast Hwy from Brisbane Road, Biggera Waters to Broad Street, Labrador
  • Marine Pde from Broad Street, Labrador to Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador
  • Gold Coast Highway from Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador to Ada Bell Way, Southport

Motorists can expect delays and traffic congestion at the following road closures on Sunday 7 July 2024 from 4.00am to 2.00pm:

Full road closure of the Sundale Bridge, Southport from 5.50am to 7.20am as required under the direction of Police.

Partial road closure of the following Northern roads:

  • Gold Coast Highway, Southport from Ada Bell Way including Sundale Bridge southbound to intersection of Waterways Drive, Main Beach (Northbound lanes will be two way.)
  • Gold Coast Highway, Mermaid Beach from Mermaid Avenue southbound to Seashell Avenue (southbound lanes only to be affected they will be down to one lane)
  • Bayview Street from Lae Drive, Runaway Bay to Madang Crescent, Runaway Bay (Local traffic only)

Full road closure of the following roads:

Northern

  • Bayview Street from Madang Cres to Lands End Bridge, Anglers Paradise
  • Lae Drive from Bayview Street to Morala Avenue, Runaway Bay
  • Marine Parade from Lands End Bridge Biggera Waters to Brisbane Road, Biggera Waters
  • Gold Coast Highway from Brisbane Road, Biggera Waters to Broad Street, Labrador
  • Frank Street from Broad Street, Labrador to Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador
  • Marine Parade from Broad Street, Labrador to Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador
  • Gold Coast Highway from Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador to Ada Bell Way, Southport

Central

  • Waterways Drive from Gold Coast Hwy to Seaworld Drive, Main Beach
  • Macarthur Parade, from Seaworld Drive to Main Beach Parade, Main Beach
  • Main Beach Parade from Macarthur Parade to The Esplanade, Surfers Paradise
  • The Esplanade from Main Beach Parade, to Clifford Street, Surfers Paradise
  • Clifford Street from Northcliffe Tce to Gold Coast Hwy
  • Fern Street between Garfield Terrace, Surfers Paradise and Old Burleigh Road Surfers Paradise
  • Old Burleigh Road from Fern Street to Armrick Avenue, Broadbeach
  • Broadbeach Boulevard, from Armrick Avenue to Queensland Avenue, Broadbeach
  • Old Burleigh Road from Queensland Avenue to Alexandra Avenue, Broadbeach
  • Hedges Avenue from Alexandra Avenue to Seashell Avenue, Mermaid Beach

Southern

  • Albatross Avenue from Seashell Avenue to Chairlift Avenue, Nobby Beach
  • Marine Parade, from Chairlift Avenue to Hythe Street, Miami.
  • Hythe Street, from Marine Parade to Gold Coast Highway

Partial road closure of the following Southern roads:

  • Gold Coast Highway, Miami between Hythe Street and Kratzmann Avenue (Northbound lanes will be two way)

Gold Coast Hwy Surfers Paradise will have diversions in place from 4.30am to 9.00am.

Vehicles travelling south will be diverted at Isle of Capri.
Vehicles travelling north will be diverted at Monaco Street.

Gold Coast Hwy Broadbeach will have diversions in place from 4.30am to 9.00am.

Vehicles travelling south will be diverted at Hooker Blvd. Southbound lanes open from Markeri Street.
Vehicles travelling north will be unaffected.
