Point Lookout, QLD – Redland City Council, in collaboration with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and the Quandamooka Yoollooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation community rangers, has announced a series of planned burns in the Point Lookout area.
Planned Burns Scheduled in Point Lookout Area
The burns are scheduled to take place from Tuesday, June 18 to Friday, June 21, weather permitting.
The specific locations for the planned burns are:
- East Coast Road Conservation Area: 89-99 East Coast Road, Point Lookout
- Tramican Street Conservation Area: 75-105 George Nothling Drive
These controlled burns aim to reduce the accumulation of forest litter, thereby lowering the risk of uncontrolled wildfires and fostering conditions favourable for native vegetation to regenerate.
While these activities might cause some temporary inconvenience to residents, every effort will be made to minimise smoke-related hazards.
Advisory
Motorists are advised to be mindful of traffic management measures, including advisory signs related to burns and potential smoke hazards, and to drive cautiously in affected areas.
The Council has also recommended that residents close their windows and doors during the burns, and those with respiratory conditions should keep their medications readily accessible.
For residents looking to stay informed, the Council offers targeted alerts about planned burns based on location and wind conditions.
To receive these alerts, residents can register through the Redlands Coast Disaster Dashboard at disaster.redland.qld.gov.au and follow the prompts under the Redlands Coast Alerts tab.
